In this week’s episode, we talk with Wes Pinkston and Eric Simon from The Broke Agent about using social media to build a business.
The Broke Agent is the number one source for retail entertainment. It was created to provide comedic relief in an industry that is both stressful and unpredictable, and Wes and Eric pride themselves on saying what everyone else is just thinking.
According to Wes and Eric, the first thing you need to do is differentiate yourself as best you can and try to find a spin or an angle that no one else or very few people are currently using.
Wes and Eric maintain that a following will grow organically if you just focus on putting the best content and finding the right audience to get it in front of. Focus on content that people will engage with (he suggests using video for this) and that is highly shareable. When it comes to creating content, pure filler is a no no. You want to educate, or you want to entertain. In our high tech and fast paced world, people’s attention spans are shorter than ever, so they won’t stop long enough to notice much else.
If you’re not good on camera, then you can still build a following online even if you’re not using video-based channels. Again, it all comes down to the content. Pictures and even just text can be highly effective if done right and done in the right spaces.
Lots more tips and scintillating conversation after the jump.
