15 Reasons I’m Excited about 2015 by Casey Wright

2014 was the best year of my life. Our company broke every revenue record, I traveled the world with my best friends, and a new Fogo de Chao opened one block from me. It might sound crazy, but I believe 2015 is going to be even better. In no particular order, here are 15 reasons…

In no particular order, here are 15 reasons why…

Titan Time

Last month, my best friend (the legend Titan Wright) turned 5. Now that he is a mature adult, and a “certified” service animal, we have resolved to go on 25 adventures together this year. We’ll be knocking a lot of stuff off his bucket list—everything from his first Coachella to his first time in snow. Nothing is better than seeing the world through the eyes of my furry soulmate.

Slave Labor

I’ve always believed the best employees are the ones you don’t pay, but ever since the Civil War, U.S. labor laws have become annoyingly anti-slavery. Recently, we found a loophole—interns. This year, we will be implementing a top notch internship program. I’m genuinely excited to start working with some of San Diego’s top emerging talent, and thrilled to see how these youngsters improve our office flip cup team.

Becoming Bendy

I finished off 2014 by forcing myself to go to a few yoga classes. It was terrible, but I also felt great afterwards. This year, I’m taking it to the next level—100 yoga classes in 365 days! Why, you ask? A lot of reasons. The increased health, the spiritual well being, the…okay, I just want an excuse to stare at hot women in yoga pants.

Burning Man

This has been on my bucket list for too long. 2015 is the year I finally make it happen. Can’t wait to experience this incomparable event with all of my best friends. If I sell all my belongings and move to a hippie commune in late August, you’ll know why.

WingWire

WingWire is the future of Realtor websites. That’s a bold statement. It’s also a statement that will be undeniably true by the end of this year. Not only are we seeing remarkable enthusiasm among our early clients, but our team has never been so excited about servicing and evolving a product. Most importantly, the sweatshirts with WingWire logos are super comfortable. Play your cards right and you might get one.

Hearing Myself Talk

Knowing how much I love to talk, it probably comes as little surprise that I love public speaking. In the early days of our business, I would speak 2-3 times a week. Over the last couple years, my job has become much more about spending time with the team than spending time in the field with Realtors. This year, that will change. I will be touring the country with my favorite keynote speech yet—a presentation on connecting to the next generation of homeowners.

Dusty Suitcases

Last year, I went on 17 vacations. That’s not a typo. Seven-fucking-teen vacations. It was amazing, it was also hell on my work schedule, my body, and my budget. This year, I’m going on fewer vacations, so I can spend more time investing in the city, family, friends, and business that I love so much.

Nice Car, Bro

After flirting for months with the idea of buying a sports car, Titan persuaded me to go the complete opposite direction and buy a Jeep…like the super big tires, can-off-road-anywhere type of Jeep. No, I won’t be off-roading, but I will be driving around downtown looking like I’m super rugged and outdoorsy. That’s enough for me.

iWatch

As a longtime Apple fanboy, I get pretty excited anytime Apple releases a new product line. This year, we’ll see the new Apple Watch. Honestly, I’m having a hard time seeing how this will be useful in my life, and it looks unfashionably nerdy, but I’m going to buy one anyways and pretend that I love it.

Blogging Inception

Reading this blog, I know what you’re thinking: “where can I find more of this guy’s amazing insights?” Well, I have some good news for you; I’m going to be blogging a lot this year. Towards the end of last year, I was invited by Huffington Post to write about content marketing for small businesses, and I’m thrilled to get the column going this year. Basically I’m going to be blogging about blogging, and I’m announcing that in a blog. Did I just blow your mind?

On-Demand Economy

Over the past few years, apps like Uber, Postmates, and TaskRabbit, have totally changed my life. Want a car? Order one in Uber. Want sushi from your favorite restaurant delivered to your doorstep? Order it up on Postmates. Want a person to clean your house while you eat your sushi? Order a maid on TaskRabbit. It’s amazing, and it’s just the beginning. I can’t wait to see what this new “on-demand economy” brings us in the coming year. First app to deliver a masseuse to my office with the click of a button gets my vote for “Best App of 2015.”

Elections

I know it’s trendy these days to say that you’re too cool for politics, that all the candidates are the same, and voting is a waste of time. I just don’t agree. Over the next few months, we’ll start to see candidates gear up for the 2016 elections, and I can’t wait. National elections are how our country debates big ideas, and how we collectively determine what’s most important to us in the coming years. Also, we’re usually treated to a few hilarious scandals. Fingers crossed for a scandal involving Chris Christie, Domino’s Pizza, and twerking koala bears.

Breathing

I’ve smoked cigarettes since I was 16. Last year, I finally made a commitment to quit. It hasn’t been easy, and it hasn’t been without micro-relapses, but for the first time in my life, I’m 99% cigarette free. Anyone who has struggled with addiction knows the battle is never over, but the last time I smoked this rarely, I was listening to Limp Bizkit on my portable CD player.

Eargasms

It’s a golden age for music. Never has there been more great music in more varied genres that’s easier to discover or less expensive to consume. If you see me walking, driving, or working out at the gym this year, there’s a good chance I’ll be bobbing my head to some epic tunes.

Company Culture

I’ve never enjoyed going to work each day as much as I do right now. The reason is simple. We’ve never had a team so energized and aligned around a common vision for who we are and where we’re going as we do right now. Wright Brothers, Inc. is a magical place to be right now, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.
